Frozen Chicken Instant Pot is a juicy and flavorful rotisserie-style whole chicken that you can make at home with 5 minutes of prep time.
Imagine putting the whole frozen chicken in the Instant Pot and having tasty chicken in an hour. Even the chicken breast is juicy. Not to mention that it’s easy to make organic.
I think cooking meat from frozen is one of the best features of the Instant Pot. My freezer is always stocked with 2-4 Costco organic whole chickens.
Because it’s the cheapest cut of chicken and when I’m out of dinner ideas, I make my Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup or this Instant Pot Rotisserie Chicken.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 – 4.5 pounds of frozen whole chicken
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- Ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons of oregano
- avocado oil
- 1 cup of water
PREPARATION OF MAKING FROZEN CHICKEN INSTANT POT
1ST STEP
Rinse frozen whole chicken under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

2ND STEP
Drizzle with a little oil and with your hands rub it over the chicken. This step will ensure proper “sticking” of the spices to the frozen chicken.

3RD STEP
Place chicken in Instant Pots side down. Sprinkle half of each spice evenly on one side of the chicken in the following order: salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and oregano. Holding the wings, carefully flip the chicken over (we don’t want to disturb the spices) and season the other half with the remaining spices (it may seem like a lot, but trust me). Holding it by the sides, transfer the chicken to a large plate.

4TH STEP
Inside the Instant Pot, add water, then place the steam rack with the handles and chicken breast facing up (holding the sides, you know the drill). Close the lid, set the pressure vent to Sealing, and press High-Pressure Cook:

5TH STEP
- For a 6-quart Instant Pot:
- 4 pounds of whole chicken – 60 minutes.
- 5 pounds of whole chicken – 70 minutes.
- For 8-quart Instant Pot:
- 4 pounds of whole chicken – 40 minutes.
- 5 pounds whole chicken – 50 minutes
- 6 pounds of whole chicken – 60 minutes.
- The display will show ON, it will take about 15 minutes for the instant pot to come to pressure, you will see a little steam come out of a valve, then the float valve will rise and start to count down

6TH STEP
Once your chicken is done, the Instant Pot will beep, the display will show OFF, and you now need to reduce the pressure before you can open it, indicated by a pop-up float valve. It is called a natural release and DO NOT do the quick release (by turning the sealing valve to the vent position). It should take about 15-20 minutes.

7TH STEP
Open the lid and you have the juiciest, most flavorful chicken ever. Serve however you like, mash for dinner, freeze for later, and save the bones for bone broth. Oh, and that tasty broth at the bottom makes an amazing soup the next day (don’t throw it away!). So many options it’s crazy!

Store: Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
